Father arrested in shooting death of 1-year-old in south Wichita, police say
A 25-year-old Wichita man has been arrested in connection with the Friday night killing of his 1-year-old daughter, police spokesperson Andrew Ford said Saturday afternoon.
The man was also arrested on suspicion of aggravated child endangerment and possession of a firearm by a felon.
Another child was in the in south Wichita home when police were called to a shooting at 8:36 p.m. on Friday in the 2200 block of South Santa Fe. That child was placed in protective custody, Ford said.
The victim’s mother was interviewed and then released.
The victim was taken to a hospital, where she was pronounced dead at 9:27 p.m. on Friday, police said.
Police said the infant girl was shot in the upper body and that they are not releasing her name at this time.
“Our hearts and prayers go out to those who loved her and are affected during this incredibly difficult time,” Wichita Police Chief Joseph Sullivan said in the news release. “We remain committed to seeking justice on her behalf.”
