1-year-old girl dies after being shot at her home in south Wichita, police say

A 1-year-old girl died after being shot at her home on Friday night in south Wichita, police spokesperson Andrew Ford said.

Police were called about the shooting at 8:36 p.m. to the 2200 block of South Santa Fe, which is near Broadway and Pawnee.

The girl was taken to a hospital in critical condition before being pronounced dead at 9:27 p.m., according to Ford and a Sedgwick County Emergency Communications supervisor.

At 10:15 p.m., Ford said that no one was in custody and that the shooting was still being investigated.

This is at least the city’s second homicide so far this year, according to reports from police. There were 12 at this time last year.
