Wichita police investigate two deadly crashes. One driver may have been drunk, cops say

Wichita police are investigating two deadly crashes that happened Saturday night, one of which detectives believe involved a drunk driver.

The first wreck happened at around 8:50 p.m., when officers were called to an injury accident at Kellogg and Main, Officer Charley Davidson said in a news release. They found a blue 2005 Ducati motorcycle and a black 2004 Lincoln Navigator SUV.

The 43-year-old man who had been riding the motorcycle was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators determined the motorcycle was westbound on Kellogg and collided with the SUV, which was northbound on Main. Police did not say whether the 17-year-old girl driving the SUV was hurt. The investigation is ongoing.

The second fatal crash happened at around 9:15 p.m. when a silver 2003 Dodge Neon hit a black 2014 Chevy Suburban at Hillside and Zimmerly, which is between Harry and Lincoln, Davidson said. A 21-year-old man had critical injuries and later died at a hospital.

Investigators determined the Chevy had turned south onto Hillside from Zimmerly as it was struck by the northbound Dodge.

“Speed and alcohol involving the Neon are believed to a factor in the accident,” Davidson said.

The man who died was the driver of the car. Neither the 43-year-old woman driving the Chevy nor her three passengers were hurt, police said. The investigation is ongoing.
