Two Wichita police officers hurt in crash with drunken driver, chief says

Two Wichita police officers were hurt early Sunday in a crash with a drunken driver, the police chief said.

“Two of our officers were struck by a drunk driver early this morning while working to keep our community safe,” Police Chief Gordon Ramsay said in a tweet. “Both were taken to the hospital and released with minor injuries. Grateful they were not seriously hurt or killed in this crash.”

The tweet also included two emojis that are sometimes referred to as “prayer hands.”

The police chief said in a Facebook post that the crash happened in the 2500 block of North Arkansas.

Additional information on the DUI wreck has not been released, including whether the driver was injured or arrested.
