Wichita police arrest sheriff’s deputy accused of driving under the influence
Wichita police arrested a Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office deputy on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
Deputy Ronald Ross was arrested early Saturday and was booked into the Sedgwick County Jail. He is suspected of misdemeanor DUI, making an illegal turn and speeding, the sheriff’s office said in a news release.
Ross has been a deputy for 33 years. In addition to the criminal investigation, the sheriff’s office has opened an internal investigation.
“Deputies are not above the law and the Sheriff’s Office will always investigate any crime or complaint with the due diligence that the public entrusts in us,” Sheriff Jeff Easter said in a statement.
The jail booking report lists the arrest in the 700 block of East Waterman. But police reports show the officer pulled Ross over at around 11:49 p.m. Friday for a traffic stop at Douglas and Washington. The 59-year-old driver was arrested at around 12:14 a.m. on suspicion of driving under the influence while incapable of safely driving, making an improper left turn and speeding in a 30 mph zone.
