Bystander shot in face on porch in southeast Wichita, police say

A 35-year-old man was shot in the face while on his front porch in southeast Wichita on Tuesday morning, police said.

Police were called about a drive-by shooting at around 1 a.m. on South Elpyco, near Harry. Officers found multiple shell casings in the area, officer Kevin Wheeler said in an email, and moments later were called about a shooting victim who walked into Ascension Via Christi St. Joseph hospital.

The 35-year-old man had been shot in the face. He had non-life-threatening injuries.

The shots were fired from a vehicle while the man was on his front porch in the 2000 block of South Elpyco, Wheeler said. “The 35-year-old is not believed to have been the intended target,” he added.
