Crime Stoppers tips lead to largest drug and money seizures in at least five years

More than $42,000 worth of drugs and $35,000-plus in cash have been seized this year through June from tips to Wichita-Sedgwick County Crime Stoppers.

It’s the most drugs and money seized in the first half of a year for at least the past five years, according to Wichita police Officer Kevin Wheeler. In comparison, the first six months of 2019 saw seizures of around $1,500 in drugs and $500 in cash.

“These numbers show that drugs continue to be prevalent, and that is why Crime Stoppers is needed in our community,” Crime Stoppers chair Henry Donaldson said in a news release. “We will continue to work with our citizens, media, and law enforcement partners to help arrest those committing crimes in Sedgwick County.”

The Crime Stoppers board approved $1,600 in cash rewards for anonymous tips during its July meeting. The tips led to 10 arrests, including eight on drug charges, according to the release.

Callers to Crime Stoppers can remain anonymous. The tips can be made three ways: downloading the P3 app, at wichitasedgwickcountycrimestoppers.com or by calling 316-267-2111.
