Wichita man, 33, wounded in early morning shooting near 19th and Burns

Wichita police are asking the public for tips to help solve an early morning shooting that left a 33-year-old man with non-life-threatening injuries.

Officers responding to a check shots call in the 1900 block of North Burns around 4:10 a.m. Friday, found the wounded man and a 38-year-old woman who say their vehicle was fired upon by three males in the area. The pair told officers they were driving home when the trio “began shooting their vehicle, striking the male,” Wichita police spokesman Officer Charley Davidson said in an emailed news release. Their home also had gunfire damage. Burns is a few blocks west of the Little Arkansas River and is in the general area of 21st and Amidon.

Police don’t think the shooting is random but “are still working to gather all details of what occurred,” Davidson wrote.

The wounded man was shot in the lower body and sought treatment at a local hospital.

Anyone with information about the case is asked to call Wichita police detectives at 316-268-4407, Crime Stoppers hotline at 316-267-2111 or the See Something, Say Something hotline at 316-519-2282. Hotline tipsters can remain anonymous. Crime Stoppers tips that lead to an arrest may be eligible for a cash reward.
