Wichita police ask for help solving drive-by shooting. Here’s the video
Local law enforcement is asking for the public’s help in solving a drive-by shooting that hurt two people last Sunday afternoon.
Crime Stoppers of Wichita and Sedgwick County released a video of the shooting on Tuesday.
“This video is not the greatest, but in the lower-left corner of the screen, you can see the vehicle that’s involved and the shots being fired,” Crime Stoppers officials said in a tweet.
The 14-second video shows a dark-colored car drive past the camera. Across the street, two people are outside when gunfire erupts.
Wichita Police Department records show the drive-by shooting was reported at around 3:19 p.m. May 3 in the 6400 block of East Lincoln, which is near the intersection of Lincoln and Woodlawn. The shooting was reported by a 19-year-old victim.
No arrests have been made in connection to the case.
Anyone with information on the case is asked to submit an anonymous tip to Crime Stoppers by calling 316-267-2111, downloading the P3 app or visiting wichitacrimestoppers.com online. Tipsters may be eligible for a cash reward.
Last week, Police Chief Gordon Ramsay said there has been an increase in drive-by shootings. He attributed some of the increase to the lack of youth activities during the coronavirus pandemic. Police records listed 36 drive-by shootings between Jan. 1 and May 3. The number is an 82% increase over the five-year average for the same time frame and a 100% increase over last year.
A 28-day period in April and early May had 13 drive-by shootings reported, or an average of about two incidents every week as the state was under a stay-at-home order. The number was a 171% increase over the five-year average.
