Kansas woman charged with murder and elder mistreatment in death of McPherson man
A Kansas woman has been charged with murder and other crimes after the Kansas Bureau of Investigation asked for tips in the case of a body found in a mobile home.
Tina Nicole Brown, 33, of McPherson, was charged Wednesday in McPherson County District Court, Kansas Attorney General Derek Schmidt said in a news release. She is charged with first-degree felony murder and mistreatment of an elder person in Monday’s death of Kelly G. Peterson.
The KBI previously said McPherson police found Peterson’s body inside his mobile home at 124 S. Kelly on Monday. The 63-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene.
Court documents allege Brown inflicted an injury on Peterson, and that the elder abuse killed him. Brown is also charged with battery of a law enforcement officer. The complaint alleges she caused “physical contact” with McPherson Police Chief Mikel Golden “in a rude, insulting, or angry manner.”
McPherson County Jail inmate records show she was arrested on Monday, and she remained jailed Wednesday evening. Her bond is set at $500,000.
Schmidt said the attorney general’s office is prosecuting the case at the request of the county attorney’s office.
Kansas Department of Corrections records show Brown has nine prior convictions in Reno County, all stemming from 2013 cases. They include aggravated assault, criminal threat and drug charges.
That year, the McPherson Sentinel reported that Dog the Bounty Hunter helped to apprehend a Tina Brown.
