Kansas machete murderer died the same day he moved into prison

A Kansas murderer sentenced to 25 years in prison died the same day he was incarcerated.

Kansas Department of Corrections officials said Timothy Russell Moses, 60, died unexpectedly at around 2:51 p.m. Tuesday at El Dorado Correctional Facility. Moses had been sentenced to serve 300 months of incarceration, prison spokesperson Jarris Perkins said in a news release.

Moses was admitted to the prison on Tuesday, KDOC inmate records show. He was sentenced earlier this month after being convicted of second-degree murder in Labette County. His earliest possible release date had been July 5, 2038.

The Kansas Bureau of Investigation is investigating the death, per protocol for in-custody inmate deaths, Perkins said. The official cause of death is pending and an autopsy is planned.

Moses was first arrested after the 2017 death of Donald Trammell, 59, in Parsons, KSNF-TV reported at the time. The Parsons Sun reported Moses was accused of killing his roommate with a machete he grabbed from the kitchen, striking him about 20 times.
