Suspected teenage gunman in Maize and Wichita shootings arrested by police
The suspected teenage gunman in a pair of shootings in Wichita and Maize has been arrested.
Jalen Johnson, 19, of Wichita, was arrested Wednesday by Wichita police, department spokesman Officer Charley Davidson said in a news release. The Maize Police Department has also arrested Johnson.
Johnson was found at his home in the 1600 block of South Pinecrest and arrested without incident after detectives determined he was involved in a shooting last month in Wichita, Davidson said. Police also found two handguns and ammunition at the house.
The arrest stems from a shooting that happened at around 1:20 a.m. on Dec. 22 in the 2000 block of North Pine Grove. Davidson said officers found a 21-year-old man with a gunshot wound to his leg, and he was treated at a hospital and released.
The Maize shooting case happened early Sunday morning during a fight that sprung up during a house party in the 7300 block of Hidden Acres. A teenage boy was treated at a hospital for a gunshot wound to his leg and released.
Wichita police arrested Johnson on suspicion of aggravated battery and criminal discharge of a firearm. Maize police arrested him on suspicion of aggravated battery, six counts of aggravated assault, and three counts of criminal damage to property. He remained held in the Sedgwick County Jail Thursday afternoon.
