Police arrest murder suspect in shooting that killed teen bystander at Wichita club

A Kansas murder suspect was arrested in Oklahoma after an innocent teenage bystander was shot and killed during an argument at an after-hours club.

Terrance Nigel Johnson, 25, of Wichita, has been booked into the Sedgwick County Jail on suspicion of first-degree murder in the shooting death of Sonya Brown, 19. He remains in custody in lieu of a $500,000 bond.

Wichita police spokesman Charley Davidson said Johnson was arrested Wednesday in Warr Acres, Oklahoma, and extradited to Kansas on Tuesday.

Investigators determined Johnson had been at the 511 Club at 511 N. West on Dec. 2 when he was involved in a “disturbance” with a male patron of the business. Johnson allegedly fired multiple shots, Davidson said. Brown was struck and later died. She is believed to be “an unintended and uninvolved victim.”

The shooting happened at around 2:50 a.m., which is after the bar’s closing time. Police previously said the shooting happened after an argument involving gang members.
