Fight at overnight party in Maize ends with teenage boy getting shot, police say

The Maize Police Department is investigating after a teenage boy was shot at a party overnight.

Maize police officers and Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office deputies were called early Sunday morning to a shooting in the 7300 block of Hidden Acres, the police department said in a statement. That’s near 53rd Street North and Ridge Road.

Law enforcement officials found a teenage boy who had a gunshot wound to his leg. The child victim was taken to a hospital by ambulance, where he was treated by medical professionals and later released.

Investigators determined the shooting happened after a fight broke out at the party, police said. The statement from police did not say whether or not the boy was involved in the fight.

The investigation is ongoing, and Maize police ask anyone with direct, firsthand knowledge of the incident to call the cops at 316-722-1433 or Crime Stoppers at 316-267-2111.
