Woman killed in Sunday’s motorcycle-car crash was 26-year-old Wichitan

Wichita police say 26-year-old Sarah Schnake is the woman killed in Sunday’s motorcycle-car collision at Third and Washington in Old Town.

Police spokesman Charley Davidson said a woman driving a 2012 Chevy Sonic north on Washington around 4:10 p.m. turned left onto Third Street in front of a group of motorcycles that were headed south, causing the crash. Two of the motorcycles, a 2009 Harley Davidson and a 2005 Honda Goldwing, collided with the Sonic.

Schnake, of Wichita, was a passenger on the Harley, which hit the front of the car. She and the 25-year-old man driving the Harley were both taken to a Wichita hospital for treatment, where Schnake later died. The man remains in critical condition, Davidson said in an e-mail Tuesday.

The 30-year-old man driving the Honda Goldwing clipped the back of the Sonic and wasn’t hurt.

Davidson said Tuesday that the investigation into the crash is ongoing. The case will be presented to the Sedgwick County District Attorney’s Office for possible criminal charging, he said.

This is the 23rd fatal traffic collision in Wichita so far this year.
