Man shot in the face during robbery in west Wichita, police say

A man was shot in the face during an attempted robbery in west Wichita on Wednesday morning, police say.

At 7:04 a.m. on Wednesday, a man walked in to a Wichita hospital with a gunshot wound to the face, a Sedgwick County dispatch supervisor said.

Police were initially called to Central and Ridge for the shooting, Officer Paul Cruz said in a release, but investigators found the scene in the 500 block of South Florence — near Kellogg and West and about about 3 1/2 miles away.

Officers spoke with the 27-year-old victim at the hospital, who said he was shot once in the face after an unknown person demanded money, Cruz said. The shooter took the victim’s property, left the scene and was not found.
