Arrest made in Monday shooting near 13th and Hillside
A 27-year-old man has been arrested in connection with a shooting earlier this week on 13th Street, police said Wednesday.
Arrest reports and an inmate log for the Sedgwick County Jail show that a Cloise Wilson Jr. was arrested Tuesday morning. He was booked into jail following questioning at City Hall and was being held Wednesday in lieu of $100,000 bond.
A 25-year-old man was driving west on 13th near Vesta – which is close to Hillside – when someone in a silver SUV fired several shots at him at about 3 p.m. Monday, police have said. An estimated six shots were fired, and the driver was hit four times in the lower extremities.
He was taken to a local hospital for treatment. Despite the multiple gunshot wounds, he is expected to survive.
A 24-year-old passenger escaped injury. The shots were fired within a three-block area as the two vehicles traveled west, police have said.
There were four people, estimated to be between 25 and 27 years of age, in the SUV, the victims told police. The shots appeared to come from a back-seat passenger.
It is still unclear what prompted the shooting, Capt. Doug Nolte said Wednesday. Investigators don’t know whether the incident was gang-related, a case of road rage or triggered by something else.
Wilson has served time in prison for a series of felony crimes – criminal discharge of a firearm at an occupied dwelling or vehicle, criminal damage to property, aggravated escape from custody, criminal threat and attempted theft – occurring between 2009 and 2013, Kansas Department of Corrections records show. He was sentenced to 12 months in prison on the attempted theft charge on Aug. 13 but was given credit for 404 days he spent in jail awaiting the outcome of the case, according to Sedgwick County District Court records.
Wilson was last paroled by the Department of Corrections on Aug. 15, records show.
