Police are still trying to identify suspects in a shooting incident that injured a motorist Monday afternoon.

A 25-year-old man was driving west on 13th near Vesta — which is close to Hillside — when someone in a silver SUV fired several shots at him at about 3 p.m. Monday, Lt. James Espinoza said. An estimated six shots were fired, according to a police report on the incident, and the driver was hit four times.

A 24-year-old passenger escaped injury. The shots were fired within a three-block area as the two vehicles traveled west, Espinoza said.

The shooting victim was upgraded to good condition Tuesday morning at Wesley Medical Center, Espinoza said. There were four people, estimated to be between 25 and 27 years of age, in the SUV, the victims told police. The shots appeared to come from a back-seat passenger.

It’s unclear at this point whether the shooting was gang-related or was a case of road rage, Espinoza said.

“It’s very early in the investigation,” he said.
