Wichita police say a woman found dead in Cessna Park earlier this week likely died of a drug overdose.

Agency spokesman Officer Brad Wright said Thursday the 47-year-old’s official cause of death will be determined by the Sedgwick County Medical Examiner’s Office, though. It can take several weeks to receive the results of toxicology testing that accompanies an autopsy.

Police and fire crews who responded to the southeast Wichita park around 8:40 a.m. Tuesday found the woman’s body in a parking lot, Wright said earlier this week. Portions of the surrounding neighborhood and park were temporarily closed Tuesday as authorities combed the area for clues about what happened to her.

The park is located near Kinkaid and Wallace streets, in the area of Pawnee and Woodlawn.

The woman was a Wichita resident, Wright said.
