Wichita girl, 14, killed after vehicle hits bridge pillar on I-135, KHP says

A 14-year-old Wichita girl was killed Saturday after the vehicle she was riding in hit a bridge pillar on I-135.

Belayna Garlen Amaya was a passenger in a 2012 Chevrolet Equinox when it left the roadway around Mile Marker 6 and veered to the right, the Kansas Highway Patrol said in a crash report. The vehicle slammed into the pillar around 6:30 p.m., causing fatal injuries.

A 16-year-old Wichita boy was driving the vehicle northbound on the highway at the time of the collision. He suffered “suspected serious injury,” the crash report said.
