Man in early 40s dies after moped strikes a pole in southwest Wichita, police say

Police confirm a man in his early 40s died after the moped he was riding on struck a pole in southwest Wichita Tuesday afternoon, according to police sergeant Kelly O’ Brien.

The call came in shortly after 4 p.m. in the area of MacArthur and Hoover. The man was pronounced dead at the scene, O’ Brien said.

Preliminary investigation reveals two witnesses told officers that the man was driving around 35 mph. O’ Brien said both witnesses “think he drove straight into the pole.”

Officers are on scene are conducting interviews and talking to people in the area trying to piece together what led up to the incident. O’Brien said the area of MacArthur and Hoover will be closed for the next hour and a half.
