Calls have been flowing into Sedgwick County 911 emergency communications as accidents stack up Wednesday morning.

The Kansas Department of Transportation in Wichita said at 8 a.m. that “most roads across the state are snow packed. Avoid travel if possible.”

As of 8:30 a.m., there were at least five active accidents on highways in Wichita, according to Kandrive.org. There appear to be accidents in each direction of K-96 at Hillside. There are also active accidents on I-135 and Kellogg.

At around 8:40 a.m., a Sedgwick County 911 supervisor said they were working several calls reported as accidents. He said some of those could end up being slide-offs and not actual collisions. He said it has been “pretty constant” on calls since he started at 6 a.m.

There had been injury accidents earlier in the morning, but weren’t any active ones at that time, he said.

Kansas Highway Patrol Trooper Ben Gardner reported multiple accidents in Saline County.
