Have to drive in the snow? Here’s how to map safer routes around Wichita, Kansas

Sleet followed by snow fell on the Wichita area overnight, leaving snow-covered roads Wednesday morning.

Wichita officials already deployed some of its personnel to help clear city roads. Kansas Department of Transportation officials will be working to plow the highways.

Here’s how you can track road conditions and plan your route before leaving home.

GPS trackers allow people to see what city streets have been plowed within the last 15 minutes, 60 minutes and 24 hours. The map is available at wichita.gov/snowremoval. A list of roads that the city plows is also available here.

Kandrive.org allows people to see road conditions and any accidents on Kansas highways.

The National Weather Service in Wichita is forecasting between 4 and 7 inches of snow overnight and into Wednesday night. It will be the largest amount of snow a single storm has dumped on the area since Jan. 1, 2021, which set a New Year’s Day record with 6.5 inches of snow.
