Wichita police suspect speed played a role in 35-year-old motorcyclist’s death Friday

Police say the motorcyclist killed Friday in a crash at 37th Street North and Oliver is 35-year-old Yaihir Yepez Morales of Wichita.

Yepez Morales was driving a Suzuki motorcycle east on 37th Street North with a group of other motorcyclists when he lost control on a curve and hit a curb at around 10 p.m., Wichita police spokesman Officer Charley Davidson said. He was thrown off the motorcycle.

Fire and medical crews tried to save Yepez Morales’ life at the crash site but were unsuccessful. He was pronounced dead on the scene.

Davidson said Monday that police suspect speed played a role in the wreck. Yepez Morales is the fifth motorcyclist killed in a crash in Wichita this year. There have been a total of 15 fatal traffic crashes in the city so far in 2020.

Yepez Morales’ wife called him a “warm hearted person” who “always looked out for everybody” on a GoFundMe page raising money for his funeral expenses. The couple has a 6-year-old daughter.
