Wichita boy who fell from skateboard pulled by friend in car has died, police say

A Wichita teenager who fell while riding a skateboard as he was pulled by a car earlier this week has died.

Wichita police said Thursday that 15-year-old Samuel Harter died from injuries sustained in the Sunday incident.

The boy fell off his skateboard and hit his head on the ground near Edgemoor Park, Officer Charley Davidson previously said. The crash was reported shortly before noon near Ninth and Christine.

Officers found the injured boy lying in the street, and he was taken to a hospital in critical condition.

Sam was one of two teens holding onto a Mazda 626 by the car’s open windows, Davidson said. The other teen let go of the car and safely stopped on his skateboard.

A 16-year-old boy was driving the car. The three teens are friends, police said.

The Eagle previously reported that the case will be presented to the Sedgwick County District Attorney’s Office for possible criminal charges. Davidson added that “vehicles are not designed to pull somebody. They are designed to be ridden in.”
