Old Town’s most ubiquitous business owner is at it again.

Melad Stephan has closed his Allegro Cafe, which previously was Janet Rine’s Caffe Moderne, across the sidewalk from his Oeno Wine Bar in Old Town Square.

“It’s just not making enough profit for me to keep it going,” Stephan says.

In true Stephan style, he has something else in the works.

“There’s more things I’m doing with some other expansions.”

He says he can’t say more because of some other businesses that are involved.

Stephan says he expects to be able to share details later this month or in November.

“It’ll be (an) exciting thing for Old Town,” he says. “It will be good for the residents and the offices.”

Stephan is still letting a few private parties that had already rented Allegro use it in the coming weeks.

Whatever the new venture is likely won’t happen until late February at the earliest.

“I just want to get through the holidays right now,” Stephan says.

“As soon as we get everything worked out, I’ll give you a call.”
