Oeno and Sabor owner Melad Stephan has reopened Caffe Moderne at 300 N. Mead in Old Town Square, but it’s not Caffe Moderne anymore.

It’s now called Allegro Cafe, and it has a new coat of paint and a new menu.

Stephan took over management of restaurant from originators Janet and Grant Rine in 2011 and bought it late last year. The Rines opened the restaurant in 2006, giving it an art deco look and filling it with antique touches from Grant’s architectural salvage business.

Stephan said he has added several pasta dishes to the menu. He’s keeping panini sandwiches but changing their recipes and is adding a couple of healthy salads, including one made with quinoa. Stephan did keep the fancy Italian gelato machine and will continue to serve gelato.

The restaurant was closed for 45 days and reopened earlier this month. The hours are 10:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays, 10:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays, and 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sundays.
