What is that giant chicken doing hanging out at 13th and Mosley?
If you’ve driven past 13th and Mosley in the past few weeks, you’ve no doubt noticed there’s a giant chicken statue standing all alone at the northeast corner of the intersection.
Could it have something to do with the nearby Cargill?
Or could it be the Ed the rooster from atop the former Donut Whole?
It’s neither, said Ali Hadi.
It’s a statue he bought from Facebook to advertise a restaurant he plans to open there.
(For the record, he calls it a chicken, though it seems to have more rooster qualities.)
Hadi owns Chicken Chicken, one of Wichita’s smallest restaurants, down the street on 13th just east of Grove.
The drive-through and pickup restaurant opened in January 2021 and serves chicken wings, tenders, nuggets and sandwiches along with fish and shrimp. It also has fries and okra as sides.
The new restaurant, which is less than a block west of Pig In! Pig Out!, will have the same menu but with more sides.
Like the original Chicken Chicken, the new one won’t have indoor seating but will have walk-in pickups and a drive through.
Also like the original, hours will be 10 a.m. to 2 a.m. daily and 10 a.m. to 3 a.m. on the weekends.
Look for the restaurant to open within the next two or three months and see the complete menu then.
