Tracy Cassidy isn’t the only well-known morning show personality returning to the airwaves Monday.

Jack Oliver is back, too, following a six-month noncompete period since he left KEYN, 103.7-FM.

Oliver will host the morning show on KWME, 92.7-FM, one of the stations that businessman Dave Murfin purchased out of the Rocking M bankruptcy.

It’s “a new opportunity to start a new radio station up,” Oliver said.

He thought he’d be on air starting over the summer, but he said then KEYN brought up the noncompete.

“They decided to enforce that.”

Except Oliver said he was at the station since 2004 and hadn’t signed anything for a few years.

“It went through a little bit of fun between all of us,” Oliver said.

He dropped it, he said, because “by the time you end up fighting them in court . . . you’ve used up six months anyway.”

No one with KEYN could be immediately reached for comment.

Oliver will be on the air from 6 a.m. to noon weekdays, the first three hours of which will be live.

He said locally produced morning shows are a rarity in Wichita these days with so many syndicated shows on corporate stations.

“Working this way can be a little bit more creative,” Oliver said. “You can kind of bring radio back to the way it used to be. A little more fun and entertaining.”

The station plays classic hits, which Oliver said means songs from the 1970s, ’80s and ’90s.

Cassidy officially starts her new morning show on KQAM, 1480-AM, on Monday as well.

She’s best known for her almost 30 years on KRBB, 97.9-FM, which is better known as B98.

Oliver has been on Wichita and Kansas stations in various capacities since 1968.

He said radio offers an opportunity for a career that changes every day and let’s you keep up with what’s going on.

“It’s going to be fun.”

On another Murfin station, Steve “The Jazz Man” Bauer now is on with the “Sunday Jazz Experience.”

The show is 6 to 9 p.m. every Sunday on KBOB, 97.1-FM.

Bauer’s almost 20-year-old “Sunday Jazz Brunch” on B98 was canceled in late 2021.

He then was on Saturdays on KSGL, 900-AM, which he said he appreciated, but he said the timing wasn’t ideal for jazz fans.

Bauer is excited to be back on Sundays. As he said in an e-mail: “Sunday’s Are Smooth Again In Wichita.”
