Wichita restaurant that opened four years ago now closed, building for sale

A restaurant that for nearly four years has served specialties from both Korea and Japan has closed.

Miya Izakaya, which Yul Kim and his son, Alex, opened in August 2022 in the building at 3030 N. Penstemon that once housed The Chalet, is now closed for good. Kim has been posting a listing for the building on various Facebook sites since earlier this year.

Neither Kim nor his son immediately returned messages about the closing, but a woman who was at the locked restaurant on Monday afternoon said that Miya Izakaya has been closed for about a month.

She said the owner is using the space for another business that sells smokeless electric grills: 3030 N. Penstemon is listed on a business card as an “authorized US Demo & Distributor Center.” Kim and his son are listed as contacts.

The listing for the building says that it could be suitable for a number of uses.

“Rare opportunity to acquire a well-maintained commercial property with extensive parking, flexible zoning, and a fully built-out interior. . .” the listing reads.

Among the uses suggested: an event center, a banquet hall, a church, a private club, a medical/wellness center and automotive-related business.

The asking price for the building, which has 4,800 square feet and sits across the street from the AMC Northrock 14 theatre, is $99,000, which includes furniture, fixtures and equipment.

Miya Izakaya served not only sushi but also Korean-style fried chicken. Later, it added late-night karaoke.
