Bennigan’s returns to Wichita — sort of — starting next week
Wednesday is opening day for 54 Craft & Co. — a new restaurant that will not only give stylish new life to the old Green Mill space in the Holiday Inn East but will also bring a taste of Bennigan’s back to Wichita.
54 Craft & Co., its owners have said, will offer a “crafted culinary experience” and will be much different from Green Mill. The menu, which is included below, will offer American fare like burgers, steaks and seafood along with wine, local craft beer and craft cocktails.
But diners also will be able to order onetime Bennigan’s favorites, including its famous Monte Cristo sandwich. That’s because the new restaurant will share its kitchen with a Bennigan’s “ghost kitchen” that will operate under the name Bennigan’s On the Fly.
The restaurant’s interior has been completely redone and will feature an open concept and a glass wine case display. It also has private event rooms.
Kinseth Hospitality and Legendary Restaurant Brands also have a location of the restaurant in Overland Park, but there it’s called KC Craft & Co. Wichita’s restaurant was named for its address on Kellogg, also known as Highway 54.
The new restaurant will also offer take-out and delivery, including for its Benningan’s On the Fly menu items, including baked potato soup, chicken wings, egg rolls and fried shrimp as well as the Turkey O’Toole sandwich, baby back ribs and Cajun chicken and shrimp pasta.
Wichita once had a Bennigan’s restaurant at 111 S. Rock Road — in the building that BD’s Mongolian Grill recently vacated — but it closed in 2008 after nearly 25 years in business.
The hours for 54 Craft & Co. will be 4 to 11 p.m. Mondays through Saturdays, with the kitchen closing at 10:30 p.m., and 4 to 10 p.m. on Sundays with the kitchen closing at 9:30 p.m.
