Restaurant at busy Rock Road intersection has just closed
A well-known restaurant that’s operated on a busy Rock Road intersection for four and a half years has closed.
Sunday was the last day in business for BD’s Mongolian Grill, which has operated since early 2020 at the corner of Douglas and Rock, confirmed franchisee Hemendra Bhakta.
He wasn’t ready to discuss details behind the closing this week but said he may be able to share more soon.
BD’s, part of a Dallas-based chain, allowed customers to create their own bowls of fresh meat, seafood, vegetables and sauces from a raw bar then watch as a cook stir fried it in front of them. When it opened, it took over a space that had previously been occupied by Genghis Grill, another Mongolian grill chain that operated there from 2009 until 2018.
Wichita now has one Mongolian grill remaining: HuHot, which first opened at 2035 N. Rock Road in November 2008.
Bhakta is an owner of Champs 316 Bar & Grill at 1106 S. Seneca and of the Global Auto Brokers car lot at 5530 W. Central. He and a partner also briefly owned the Walt’s All American Bar & Grill on the West Central property, but they closed it last year to expand their car lot.
