Dining With Denise Neil

Extra-caffeinated Wichita adding two new coffee options, one that also serves doughnuts

An already extra-caffeinated Wichita is adding two new coffee businesses: One opened Wednesday and the other will be up and running in the next couple of weeks.

Wednesday was the first day of a “soft opening” period for Wichita’s second local 7 Brew drive-through coffee shop, which started serving this morning at 110 N. Rock Road. The chain’s first store opened in September at 3031 E. Central, and a third will open later this summer at 11465 E. 21st St., which is just to the east of the Arby’s at 21st and Greenwich.

The shops, which operate out of pre-fab buildings that are dramatically dropped onto their sites, are drive-through only and are known for fast service. Based in Fayetteville, Arkansas, 7 Brew served espresso-based coffee, teas, energy drinks and more. The chain has more than 100 shops across the country. Its hours are 5:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily.

Customers are invited to a “swag day” on Saturday, July 29, when every customer who purchases a large drink will get a free 7 Brew T-shirt.

The just-opened 7 Brew is at Douglas and Rock on a site where a longtime strip center that held Hen Features and a few other buildings was recently demolished.

Next up: Sugar Llamas

Even more coffee will be available by Aug. 5, when Sugar Llamas officially opens its west-side Wichita store. The shop, whose specialty is colorful frosted mini-doughnuts, has its grand opening day set for Saturday, Aug. 5, says owner Kim Mallon, but it will likely start a “soft opening” period a little sooner.

The shop at 841 N. Tyler also serves a full line of coffee drinks as well as ice cream. It’ll have a drive-through and sits on the south end of a strip center near Central and Tyler.

The Sugar Llamas chain was founded by Dallas and Robyn Jones, who also started the self-serve frozen yogurt chain CherryBerry in 2010. (Wichita had a CherryBerry at 737 N. Maize Road from 2011 until it closed in 2015.)

Sugar Llamas is also looking for employees. Those interested should email sugarllasmaswichita@gmail.com
