Dining With Denise Neil

This Wichita restaurant has closed after just four months in business

Wichita has lost a barbecue restaurant that it barely had a chance to enjoy.

SmokeHouse ICT — the restaurant at 2800 E. Central that food trucker Chris Morgan opened in early May — quietly closed at the end of August. In a Facebook post, Morgan said the closing was for “both business and personal reasons” and said he would continue with catering. I’ve reached out to Morgan but have not yet heard back.

Morgan, a former insurance agent who opened his barbecue food trailer in April 2021, decided this year to expand into a brick and mortar location and sold the trailer. He opened his restaurant on May 5 in the space that Kiko’s vacated in April after only a year in business.

Building owner Navid Haeri said he’s now looking for a new tenant for the space.
