What happened to the Wing Boss & Burgers restaurant planned for Wichita?
The signs have been up on the building since late last year, but so far, Wichita’s promised Wing Boss & Burgers restaurant in the former Krispy Krunchy Fried Chicken building on North Broadway hasn’t materialized.
Now, people are asking if it ever will.
Eric Vu, a California-based broker who scouts out properties across the country for restaurant clients, put the deal together last year and initially said the restaurant should be operating by January of February of this year.
But he now says that the would-be operators of the restaurant have bailed. He hasn’t heard from them in some time.
The project is stalled for now, he said, but he’s working with the chain to try to find a new operator.
Wing Boss & Burgers is a wings concept by Dickey’s Restaurant Brands that started in 2021 as a delivery-only “ghost kitchen” concept. In the fall, it started adding bricks-and-mortar locations across the country, selling the pit-smoked wings made popular at Dickey’s Barbecue Pit, which once had two locations in Wichita: one at 2244 N. Greenwich and one at 2768 N. Maize Road. (Both closed in 2019.) Wichita’s restaurant also is supposed to serve burgers.
I’ll let you know when there’s an update.
