Another weekend, another list of restaurant closings for Wichita
For those keeping track, Wichita is now down a few more restaurants.
One came as a shocker over the weekend: Knolla’s, the local pizza chain that Pat Knolla started in the 1980s, has closed one of its locations: the tiny but popular carryout spot that had been open since 1995 at 3817 W. 13th St.
Owners have posted a sign on the door urging customers to patronize its other local restaurants — at 7732 E. Central, 111 W. Douglas, 7343 W. Central and 4041 N. Maize Road.
Each of the Knolla’s restaurants in town is independently owned by members of the Knolla family. Pat Knolla’s widow, Sheri Knolla, owned the 13th and West store.
Also over the weekend, Augustine Iacopelli vacated the space at 756 N. Tyler where he has operated his Augustino Brewing Company since November 2017. Saturday was his last day in the space.
Earlier this month, we reported that Iacopelli’s landlord, Gregory Neville, had filed a petition for eviction with Sedgwick County District Court citing unpaid rent. Iacopelli said on Facebook over the weekend that he and wife Bianca were “actively looking for a new home and look forward to announcing as soon as we are able.”
The space will soon be taken over by Santiago Munoz, who operates his The Angry Elephant barbecue restaurant out of part of the space. He plans to expand his business to the Augustino side and add a sports bar, he said.
“We want everyone to know it’s been a difficult and sad transition but we are fully open and operational,” he said.
On Saturday, Munoz said, he’ll be offering a special: buy one, get one half off on burgers and sandwiches with choice of side.
Finally, it appears that Krispy Krunchy Fried Chicken at 1302 N. Broadway has closed. The phone number is disconnected, and the restaurant has been dark for a while. The store is no longer listed on the chain’s website and is no longer accepting orders from third-party delivery services.
It was opened in the summer of 2019 by franchisee Emrul K. Akter, who took over a former Church’s Chicken space. The chain, which sells Cajun-style chicken, mainly operates out of convenience stores across the country.
