Lunch hours returning at this favorite Wichita Italian restaurant after two-year absence
It’s been more than two years since fans of Angelo’s decadent pizzas and homey pasta dishes have been able to enjoy them for lunch — unless they were smart enough to have saved leftovers from the night before.
But now, for the first time since before the pandemic started in March 2020, Angelo’s Italian Restaurant at 5900 E. Central is finally wading back into the lunch business. For the past two Saturdays, it’s been offering lunch hours — opening from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. And as of last week, they’re also open from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Fridays.
Even more lunch hours will likely be added this summer, said owner Gina Fasciano-Hogan. Once school is out, she said, Angelo’s hopes to begin opening for lunch Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. (For now, though, weekday hours are 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesdays through Thursdays.)
The long lunchtime hiatus was caused by two factors, Fasciano-Hogan said. One was the pandemic. Angelo’s closed entirely for a brief period when the pandemic started in March 2020 but quickly reopened with curbside-to-go, which it offered throughout the COVID-19 shutdowns and beyond.
Fasciano-Hogan and her father, Jack Fasciano, announced in January 2021 that they were moving the restaurant from its spot at 5321 E. Central, where it’d been since 2016, to its larger current space up Central. Angelo’s closed to make the move in early April of last year then reopened with curbside-to-go service in May. The owners opened for dine-in business at the new space in September but since then had served only dinner.
The menu for lunch will be the same as it is at dinner, Fasciano-Hogan said, and will include Italian salad, pizzas and entrees like chicken parmigiana, baked chicken thighs, lasagna, manicotti, cannelloni, and spaghetti and meatballs. The menu also includes sub sandwiches.
