A new Cinnabon cafe just opened in Wichita and offers more than just cinnamon rolls

It’s not as though Wichita hasn’t had access to Cinnabon cinnamon rolls over the past several years. Local Schlotzsky’s sandwich stores offer Cinnabon products, including those gooey classic cinnamon rolls, plus miniature cinnamon rolls and even cinnamon roll centers that eliminate the need to eat through those troublesome outside layers to get to the good stuff.

But now, Wichita has a new way to get Cinnabon products. And although it’s not the type of mall food court Cinnabon managed by an undercover Saul Goodman on “Better Call Saul” — Wichita lost its Towne East location in 2015 — it has an expanded menu that offers more Cinnabon than Wichita’s had in awhile.

A Cinnabon cafe opened about two weeks ago inside the new Kwik Shop at 656 S. West St. The store is just off Kellogg and is the same Kwik Shop that offers an attached Taco John’s restaurant.

It’s also one of the first two Kwik Shop stores in Kansas to include a Cinnabon cafe. Garden City also has a Kwik Shop/Taco John’s/Cinnabon combo store.

The new Wichita Cinnabon has its own counter inside the store, right next to the Taco John’s counter. Its menu includes fresh-baked cinnamon rolls, but it also has breakfast sandwiches made on ciabatta bread and croissants. The sandwiches are available every day.

It also has an espresso and cold brew menu with things like Cinnamon Roll Lattes, macchiatos and mochas — all available hot or iced.

The shop will celebrate with a grand opening event on Oct. 15, during which the first 50 people to arrive will get free BonBites, which are bite-sized cinnamon rolls. There will also be samples from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Cinnabon and Kwik Shop have plans to open 25 Cinnabon cafes across the country in the next two years, according to a release from Kwik Shop’s parent company.
