Also not happening this year because of COVID-19: Wichita’s biggest taco party

It’s been one of Wichita’s most popular food events since its crowded debut at Union Station Plaza back in 2017.

But this year, the Wichita Taco Fest will be added to the long list of popular crowd pleasers that won’t happen because of COVID-19.

On Monday, the event’s organizer, Festive ICT, announced in a news release that Taco Fest wouldn’t happen in 2020. In fact, none of its events will.

The group also was planning a Taco Fest for Kansas City, a second installment of its Margaritas & Mojitos event, which was on the calendar for late May, and the 2020 version of I Got Sole, a sneaker-centered event that was scheduled for late March.

“Due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the uncertainties it has created, we have decided that hosting any events this year just isn’t realistic,” the release said.

Taco Fest made its debut in 2017 to huge crowds and long lines, and over the next several years, organizers moved it to different locations hoping to find the right fit.

Last year’s drew big crowds to Old Cowtown Museum on a hot July day, where people sampled $1 tacos, listened to live music and enjoyed margaritas.

Organizers said they’d keep fans posted about 2021 dates for the events.
