Connie’s, Chester’s among the Wichita restaurants announce comeback plans

Wichita restaurants just keep reopening.

On Monday morning, I posted a long list of favorite Wichita eateries that have been closed down for weeks amid coronavirus concerns but that are now planning to reopen for carryout only. On Tuesday, there was another list.

Since then, I’ve heard from several more restaurateurs who say they are doing the same.

Here’s another batch.

Egg Crate Cafe, 8606 W. 13th: It’s been closed since March 22, but this west-side breakfast restaurant reopened Thursday for new carryout hours: 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Thursdays through Saturdays and 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sundays. It’s serving breakfast all day from a limited curbside and carryout men

Chester’s Chophouse & Wine Bar, 1550 N. Webb Road: This east-side restaurant announced on Wednesday morning that it had reopened for carryout and delivery from 4 to 8:30 p.m. daily with a limited menu. Call at 316-201-1300 to place an order.

Red Lobster, 555 S. West St.: Only one Wichita Red Lobster has reopened and it’s this one, which returned on Monday for carryout and to-go only. The east side Red Lobster remains closed.

Two Olives, 2949 N. Rock Road: This restaurant has been selling family meals each week, but now it has returned for lunch and dinner service to-go. Its new hours are 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily with brunch from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Jack’s North Hi Carryout, 603 W. 13th St.: This longtime burger carryout restaurant reopened Tuesday, April 21 for carryout orders.

Taqueria El Fogon, 2604 N Arkansas or South: 1555 S Bluffview Dr.: This favorite taco restaurant has been closed for a month, but the owner reopened both of his Wichita restaurants sometime this week. Watch Facebook for updates.

Dempsey’s Biscuit Co., 3425 E. Douglas: This restaurant is starting curbside dinner service from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesdays through Saturdays and Sunday brunch from 9 am. to 2 p.m. on Sundays.

Georges French Bistro, 4618 E. Central: This popular College Hill restaurant returned on Wednesday with carryout and delivery options available. Hours will be 4 to 8:30 p.m. daily. Check out the menu on Facebook and call 316-831-1325 to place an order.

Asian Bistro, 1520 S. Webb Road: This restaurant returned Wednesday with carryout and party trays. It’s closed Tuesdays but open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays through Sundays. Call 316-425-6208 to place an order.

Old Chicago: As we reported just before coronavirus closings started, Wichita’s Old Chicago restaurants were not affected by their parent company’s bankruptcy filing. But some people were confused when the local restaurants closed down for coronavirus.

Now, two Wichita Old Chicago restaurants have reopened and the third should be back next week, said Josh Kern with CraftWorks Holdings. The restaurants at 2240 N. Tyler Road and at 300 N. Mead are now offering carryout food and craft beer growlers from noon to 8 p.m. Sundays through Thursdays and noon to 9 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays as of Friday, April 24. The east-side restaurant at 7626 E. Kellogg Drive should be back on line by next week, he said.

California Tortilla, 2244 N. Greenwich: This restaurant wasn’t open very long before coronavirus hit. But it reopened for pickup and delivery starting on Friday, it announced on Facebook on Monday.

Molino’s Mexican Cuisine and Molino’s Taqueria: Mario Quiroz plans to bring his flagship restaurant at 1064 N. Waco back on Monday, April 27. The taqueria on North Rock Road will follow soon.

Livingston’s Cafe, 4733 E. Douglas: The College Hill Livingston’s will reopen with carryout, curbside pickup and Grubhub delivery starting on Tuesday, April 28. Hours will be 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesdays through Sundays.

District Taqueria, 917 E. Douglas: This downtown taqueria has announced it will reopen on May 5 and asked fans to watch Facebook for details.

Connie’s Mexico Cafe, 2227 N. Broadway: This Mexican restaurant will reopen on Tuesday, May 5, for curbside service only. Hours will be 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.
