Vacant McAlister’s Deli spot on Wichita’s Rock Road about to get a new restaurant tenant
A Rock Road restaurant space that’s been sitting vacant for two years is about to get a new tenant.
Ada Yang and her husband, Han, are preparing to expand their sushi business — which already includes a west side and a downtown spot — to the old McAlister’s Deli space at 306 N. Rock Road.
They hope to have the new restaurant open by mid-December, Ada Yang said.
“We’ve been wanting to expand our business to the east side for years,” she said.
The east-side Ninza will have many of the same menu items as the west-side location, which opened in 2013, and Blue Fin, the couple’s downtown sushi restaurant.
But they plan to expand the menu at the new restaurant and offer more appetizers, rolls and sashimi. The new Ninza will also have a lounge.
The couple opened their first Ninza Sushi in Northwest Centre, 13th and Tyler, six years ago. Just after Thanksgiving in 2017, though, an accidental electrical fire destroyed much of the restaurant. They rebuilt it and reopened it last October.
In April of last year, the couple took over Blue Fin, a sushi restaurant at 255 N. Washington in Old Town. They ran a popular half-price sushi deal there through most of the summer.
Once they have the east-side restaurant open, Ada Yang said, they plan to change Blue Fin’s name to Ninza Sushi, too.
The spot they’re taking over on Rock Road has been vacant since September of 2017, when McAlister’s Deli relocated its east-side restaurant to 2222 N. Greenwich Road.
