Just nine months after it opened, Las Trojas Mexican Grill at 21st and Maize has closed.

Hand-written signs posted on the door read “Closed – out of business” and the phone is disconnected. A customer told me that the restaurant’s last day in business was Sunday.

Back in February, Las Trojas opened at the spot at 2330 N. Maize Road that once held the short-lived Barroco Mexican Grill, which closed after five months because of a fire and never reopened. The spot is not too visible from the road but sits back off of Maize Road, just behind the Dillons at 21st and Maize.

Las Trojas was owned by Diego Avilas, who in 2013 opened Tequila’s Mexican Grill in Valley Center, along with his brother-in-law, Rafael Quiroz.
