Hillary Clinton’s supporters lead in poor grammar usage, online service finds

The most-followed Democratic presidential candidate has the least grammatically correct Facebook supporters, according to a new online study from Grammarly.

Hillary Clinton’s supporters made the most grammatical mistakes, while supporters of Lincoln Chafee, the former governor of Rhode Island, led the Democratic field in proper grammar usage on Facebook.

Clinton’s supporters made nearly twice the amount of grammar mistakes that Chafee’s supporters made.

Grammarly, an online service that provides grammar and spelling assistance to writers in need, analyzed a minimum of 180 comments from the Facebook pages of the five Democratic candidates that will be debating on CNN next week.

Blatantly negative comments, or those from so-called trolls, were removed from the study, which analyzed a time period from April to August.

It ran all of the comments through its automated proofreader and had a team of humans on hand to verify and tally the errors.

The average number of words analyzed for each candidate was around 6,000, according to Grammarly.

Clinton had 1,353,581 followers on Facebook when the data was collected. Chafee had 9,526.

Grammarly also analyzed GOP candidates’ followers’ grammar usage in August, finding that front-runner Donald Trump’s supporters made the most grammatical mistakes.
