Man shot in leg, refuses to cooperate with police
A 23-year-old man suffered a gunshot wound to his right leg early Saturday morning, but he refused to tell Wichita police who pulled the trigger.
Sgt. Steve Yarberry said the man walked into Wesley Medical Center’s emergency room seeking treatment for the bullet wound around the same time officers were working the scene of a reported disturbance at 4940 E. 21st St. at 2:45 a.m. Saturday.
When officers arrived at the 21st Street address, “they located approximately 35 shell casings at the parking lot,” Yarberry said.
But police have no leads or information about the shooter because the 23-year-old refused to disclose his or her identity or give a description of the person. The police call was for an alleged aggravated battery with a firearm.
“He was uncooperative with the police department in explaining what had occurred,” Yarberry said of the victim. “He just told officers he didn’t want to prosecute. So we don’t have any information from him to investigate this case.”
