Two dead in southeast Wichita shooting
A man shot his ex-wife Friday morning before killing himself, police said.
The shooting was reported at 7:43 a.m. in the 1500 block of South Goebel Circle, a Sedgwick County emergency dispatch supervisor said. That’s just northeast of Harry and Webb Road.
A preliminary investigation indicates a man in his 40s shot his ex-wife multiple times before turning the gun on himself, Wichita police Capt. Kevin Mears said. The man was pronounced dead at the scene, while the woman was taken to a hospital for treatment.
She died later Friday at the hospital, Wichita police Officer Charley Davidson said.
Other family members were in the duplex at the time of the shooting, Mears said, but no other injuries were reported.
The shooting occurred at Park Place Townhomes, a duplex development east of Webb Road and just north of Harry. Portions of the development are still under construction, and the duplexes that have been completed have only been open for a month.
A relative of the shooter said he was “going through a rough time.”
“He had lost everything, including his children,” said the woman, who did not want her name used.
She said the man and woman had two children together: a 16-year-old boy and a 19-year-old girl.
