Update: Man arrested on suspicion of murder after 6-month-old dies, police say
A 28-year-old man has been booked into jail on suspicion of first-degree murder and child abuse after a 6-month-old boy died on Tuesday, according to Wichita police.
Dorl Callus Gwyn was arrested and booked just before 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, booking reports say. He is being held on a $500,000 bond.
Gwyn and the child's mother went to an emergency room with the child at 10:44 a.m. because he had stopped breathing, Lt. Todd Ojile said Wednesday.
The father told hospital staff that he was rough housing and shadow boxing with the baby when the baby stopped breathing. The baby was pronounced dead at 10:53 a.m., Ojile said.
A coroner determined he died of severe internal injuries, police said. The father and mother were interviewed and Gwyn was later arrested.
Ojile said the mother was in the home at the time of the incident, but didn't witness the rough housing. Three other children live in the home. A 3-year-old is now with the mom, and a 6- and 8-year-old are with their grandparents.
Gwyn has not yet been charged, Ojile said.
