Wichita 15-year-old arrested in shooting death of 17-year-old, police say

Wichita police said a 15-year-old boy was arrested after a 17-year-old boy was shot and killed Sunday morning.

The 17-year-old boy was found with multiple gunshot wounds by officers who were dispatched to the 800 block of South Pershing, near Lincoln and Oliver, at around 12:45 a.m. on Sunday, Officer Paul Cruz said at the time. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The teen was a runaway who got into an "altercation" with another individual, Cruz said.

A 15-year-old boy was booked into juvenile detention at around 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday on suspicion of murder, aggravated highway robbery and criminal possession of a firearm by a juvenile, Officer Charley Davidson said Thursday.

He was arrested in the 1000 block of South Bleckley, booking reports show. That's near Lincoln and Oliver and about half a mile from where the 17-year-old was shot and killed.

Neither boy has been identified by police because they are juveniles, Davidson said.

The case will be presented to the District Attorney's Office on Thursday, Davidson said.

The shooting death of the 17-year-old boy is the 10th homicide of 2018 in Wichita.
