Shooting followed possible drug-related robbery, police say

A 28-year-old man was shot in the leg as he sat in a truck in the 2900 block of North Meadow Oak, near East 29th and North Woodlawn, early Wednesday.

He and a woman were parked near a residence where another man and woman were on a porch at about 5 a.m., Officer Charley Davidson said.

Then, a stranger walked up to the pair on the porch, pulled out a handgun and demanded their belongings. He took a backpack, then headed toward the truck, Davidson said.

He pointed the gun at the driver and again asked for property. Davidson said that as the man walked away from the truck, he fired one shot, hitting the 28-year-old in his leg.

That man was taken to a local hospital for treatment. Davidson said the shooting may be drug-related.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Crime Stoppers at 316-267-2111.
