Police investigating shooting reported near Harry and Meridian
Wichita police are still looking for a victim and a suspect in a shooting reported shortly after noon on Saturday.
Several people called 911 at about 12:20 p.m. to reports shots being fired near Mentor and Sedgwick in southwest Wichita, Wichita Police Sgt. Joe Kennedy said. That’s near Harry and Meridian in southwest Wichita.
Police soon cordoned off a mobile home on the corner of Sedgwick and Merton with crime scene tape. Investigators were told the shooting victim was on his way to a hospital, Kennedy said, but he has not yet been located.
A man was taken into custody in connection with the shooting later Saturday afternoon, but Capt. Doug Nolte said he didn’t know if that person has been named as the shooter.
“Right now, we don’t have much information on who was firing the shots,” Kennedy said. “We do know that two cars collided with each other in the intersection” next to where the shooting occurred inside a mobile home on the corner.
That collision occurred in the aftermath of the shooting, he said.
