Gun pointed at family in Walmart parking lot; teen arrested
A teenage boy has been arrested after allegedly pulling up to a family in a Walmart parking lot and pointing a gun at them in west Wichita Tuesday night, police said.
A 42-year-old woman reported being in the parking lot of the Walmart in the 6100 block of West Kellogg at about 8 p.m. Tuesday when a dark SUV pulled up next to them, Officer Charley Davidson said in a prepared statement. The driver of the dark-colored SUV pointed a small black handgun at the woman and her four children, ages 15, 15, 14 and 10.
The woman reported that two other people were in the SUV with the male driver. During their investigation, officers located the SUV at a residence in the 4000 block of West Westlawn. That’s near 21st Street North and Ridge Road.
The suspect, a 16-year-old boy, was found at the residence and arrested on suspicion of five counts of aggravated assault, five counts of criminal threat, juvenile in possession of a firearm and drug offenses. He was booked into the juvenile detention center.
A 17-year-old boy at the residence was arrested on suspicion of drug offenses.
